A defective fuel pump could cause a loss of power, raising the risk of a crash

Ford Motor Company is recalling 295,449 diesel-engine trucks due to a defective fuel pump that could lead to power loss, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The NHTSA explained that “biodiesel deposits may accumulate on the pump drivetrain roller components, potentially causing the high-pressure fuel pump to fail.”

Affected vehicle owners may notice issues such as “extended crank times during startup, a Check Engine Light (CEL), unusual noise, and reduced engine power,” as detailed in recall documentation.

Ford has not received any reports of accidents, injuries, or fires related to the issue as of Tuesday.

The recall includes the following models:

  • 2020-2022 Ford Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600
  • 2021-2022 Ford F-650, F-750

Ford dealers will update the powertrain control module software at no cost to owners. Notification letters will be sent to affected vehicle owners starting January 13, 2025. For more information, owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall number 24S78.
