Cadillac and Chevrolet vehicles of different model years are part of recall
General Motors is recalling over 90,000 vehicles due to a potential transmission issue that may increase the risk of a crash.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), certain 2019-2020 Cadillac CT6, 2020-2021 Cadillac CT4 and CT5, and 2020-2022 Chevrolet Camaro models equipped with a 10-speed transmission may experience “excess wear” in the transmission control valve over time. This could lead to “harsh shifting” and, in rare cases, a brief lock-up of the wheels while driving, which poses a heightened crash risk.
The recall report notes one alleged accident that may be linked to this defect.
To address the issue, a software update will be installed to detect excessive wear approximately 10,000 miles before a potential wheel lock-up. If detected, the system will automatically shift the transmission into fifth gear until the vehicle is restarted, preventing the condition from occurring.
Dealers will install the new transmission control module monitoring software at no cost to customers. Owners of affected vehicles will receive notification letters beginning April 21.
GM has already integrated updated transmission control software into the production of 2021 Cadillac CT6, 2022 Cadillac CT4 and CT5, and 2023 Chevrolet Camaro models.
